Non-commercial culture centre in Moscow

I do not think that our center has a major impact on the area around the factory because it is a in former industrial area and now most of it is converted into business centers. On the other hand, I think it is very important that we chose the other way - we created a center for creative industries here because our center is a special place which is not commercial, where artists can come and do something that is not possible elsewhere. I´ve met lots of people who came to me to say “thank you” for the opportunity to make something special, something new, something interesting and they told me they wouldn´t have such an opportunity in other places. Not even in other cultural centers in Moscow because most of them are more commercial, they charge money for renting their spaces and we do not. Moscow is a huge city and it is very difficult to make a something that will have influence on the whole city, but I definitely know that our audience appreciates an opportunity to come here and to feel this atmosphere and to know that there is a place for them. They do not have to spend money here buying something all the time, but they can always find something interesting and new in here. There are several culture centers in Moscow but when we started in 2004 there were just two. It was Proekt_Fabrika and Art-Strelka. The other one was closed later and it is 6 or 7 culture centers in Moscow so there is a trend that the city becomes more creative. Maybe this process is going quite slow, but in any case it proves that we chose the right way and that spaces like ours are important for the city.
