Working with(out) politicians

Dominique Perrault

I have got two positions. The first one: in times of Sarkozy, I have got a position in scientific committee, close to president.  Aim was to organize an exchange workshop between international workshop of architects and the president. And I also had a very important and more or less emotional role in the mission at the Biennale in Venice, for the French pavilion. I was former curator and now I am involved with my team, a large team, into the process of the Grand Paris. Yet to be honest, now the input is a little bit lower, because at the moment the strategy of the workshop of the international workshop of the Grand Paris is not stable.

A lot of ideas, but no money. So money is a problem obviously. But so the power is: who is in a right position to control, to drive this kind of workshop and also the development of this territory? On the side of politicians, nobody knows at the moment. It is a little bit difficult for architect and the teams to work without a politician - client. Where is a client? And such is this period. I think this period is not a drama. But we should change this situation in the next months maybe in a beginning of the next year so as to re-develop with the new mayors in 2014 some strategy together: connecting strategies between different cities, creating new map and new geography for the territory of the Grand Paris. We will see.
