Dr Beatriz Garcia is the Director of Impacts 08, a research programme that investigates the impacts of Liverpool\\\'s European Capital of Culture project, undertaken jointly by the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University. Other projects directed by Dr García assess the legacy of cultural programming of large-scale events such as the European Capital of Culture (Glasgow 1990), the Commonwealth Games (Manchester 2002) and the Olympic Games (including Barcelona 1992, Sydney 2000, Salt Lake City 2002, Athens 2004, Torino 2006, Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010 and London 2012). She also has acted as academic collaborator to the Palmer/Rae team evaluating the impact of 1995-2004 European Capitals of Culture for the European Commission, has been academic advisor to the London 2012 Culture and Education team since the bid stage and is a member of the IOC Postgraduate Research Grant Selection Committee. In 2009, she was appointed as a member of the DCMS Science and Research Advisory Committee and since 2010, she is an advisor to the DCMS London 2012 Games Meta-Evaluation. Dr García has published extensively. Her recent publications include articles in the following journals: the International Journal of Cultural Policy; Urban Studies; Media, Culture and Society. Her monograph The Olympic Games and Cultural Policy was be published by Routledge in 2011.
